I have a problem: i compose problems at home and at work :-[, and have two databases with my problems. but shure exists doubles in each db. i want to merge this databases, but without doubles. how i can organize this? DB can be on pgn, ccv, problemiste or matplus library format.
or no posibility to organize this at this moment (no any tool)?
have a nice day,

That's a great job when you can compose problems. What kind of work is that? I am looking for a new job so I may use your advise how to find some job where I can compose problems :)!
I can see only two possible solutions for your issue:
1) Either you use some program that does have an interface to the main database available through the Internet
2) Or to use some program that does have export/import option so that you can easily transfer problems without re-entering them.
I do not have this issue since I compose problems strictly at home. Unfortunately here at Microsoft they do not allow us to compose problems at work. | | (3) Posted by Mihail Croitor [Thursday, Jun 11, 2009 22:30] | :-[
i work into a science lab.
i will try to write a tool that will merge pgn/pbm databases | | (4) Posted by Joost de Heer [Thursday, Jun 11, 2009 22:40] | Scid can afaik merge PGN's and recognise duplicates. | | (5) Posted by [Thursday, Jul 9, 2009 17:37]; edited by [09-07-10] | Mihail Croitor asks:

One of your problems is going to be to define 'double'. Position alone?
Position + stipulation? Or with authors name? Regardless of spelling variation?
or will perhaps 'double' be decided by the user?
I know of no publicly available tool to identify duplicates.
[Added: identify and remove, that is. Problemist will allow you to search
for duplicates one by one, which may be OK for small sets of problems. ]
The best that can be done, I think, is to add the databases, so that all records
are in one place. Then it's mainly a question of what tools that particular database
provides. If none of them can do it, you are out of luck.
If you know programming, Problemist is not too difficult to work with -- and
the author will share the PBM file format details if you ask for them.
PGN I regard as useless for the purpose -- the other formats I know nothing of. | | No more posts |
