Among these was Heikki Lukkarinen, who after publishing his first problem as a fourteen year old, became one of Finland's leading composers while still in his teens.
This promising career was brought to an end by a sniper's bullet which struck him down on 18th October 1941 aged just 23.
With the aid of his meticulously kept notebooks, Suomen Tehtäväniekat have put together a collection of all his known problems.
This celebrates what was, and leaves us to ponder on what might have been.
The slim volume, edited by Jorma Paavilainen, consists of 132 problems - mostly 2 & 3 movers - with commentary in both Finnish and English.
Newly published, it will be available to buy in Jurmala at a price of 15 euros.
To be sure of getting a copy, you can reserve one (or more!) by sending me a Note on this site. | | (2) Posted by Marjan Kovačević [Tuesday, Jul 16, 2024 20:01] | Great project, count me in with two copies. | | (3) Posted by Ralf Krätschmer [Tuesday, Jul 23, 2024 09:40] | Dear Neil,
