Bedrich Formánek Memorial Tourney C 19.11.2024

Slovak Organization for Chess Composition (SOKŠ) announces international chess composition tourney Bedrich Formánek Memorial Tourney in two sections:

a. Orthodox threemovers (#3) with 2 or more phases (as phases are understood set play, tries and solution, or even multiple solutions, but on the other hand twins are not allowed). Judge: Gérard Doukhan (France), director: Peter Gvozdják (peter.gvozdjak@gmail.com).

b. Fairy helpmates in three moves (h#3) without fairy conditions, but with fairy pieces – it is compulsory to utilize exactly two types of fairy pieces (more pieces of the same types possible) from the following list: grasshopper, vao, pao, mao, nightrider, berolina pawn, camel, moa, giraffe, alfil, fers, dabbaba. Additionally, the entries can (but need not) use royal unit(s) and/or neutral unit(s). Set play, multiple solutions and twins allowed, but no zero position. Judge: Franz Pachl (Germany), director: Ivan Jarolín (ijarolin@gmail.com).

There was one question related to the h#3 section so far: only h#3 are ok (possibly with set play), but no h#2,5.

And is there some limit for entries by one composer?

Peter, what year will the results of the competition apply to? They will be published in 2025.

dear nikita,
yes, the award of this memorial tourney will appear in 2025.
if you had in mind the fide album or wcci, then the award published in 2025 belongs to the period 2025-2027.

Codex article 22:

(2) The priority date of a chess composition is
(a) the actual date of its first publication [27], or
(b) if it is first published in the award of a formal tournament, the closing date of that tournament.

So shouldn't the date that's relevant for the FIDE album be the closing date of the tournament (19.11.2024)?

Joost, Codex Article 22 is about the priority date of a composition; it is not about the publication date.

Check the first paragraph of the 2019-21 album announcement.
