The S promotion is a threat either in the Pedersen position. Can't say I'm bothered. :-)

 QUOTE
Is it an AUW, if the queen promotion is already a threat? Perhaps in block positions.

I suppose it still counts as an AUW, but possibly not if the threat is virtual.

To my mind all promotions must be uniquely motivated. It's easy with Q and S, not so with the others. If black has a free move that allows the threat (queen promotion), then that is not a variation. It would be a two phase problem: one with queens, one with the other three. Nothing wrong with that, only it's not an AUW.

you could see the Lindgren composition as a Karlström-Fleck: Both 2. e8-Q and 2. e8=S are threats. There are two moves that separate the threats, and two moves which defend against both threats, resulting in an AUW on the second move.

Well a Karlström-Fleck it is not, requiring as it does at least three threats, the same number of defences, giving new mates.

Vladimir Kuzmitchov

(= 13+11 )
#4

1.c7! [2.c8=S#]
1…B×e4 2.f×e4 f3 3.c8=B [4.Qb7#]
1…Bd5 2.c8=Q B×e6+ 3.Q×e6 [4.Qea6#]
1…Bc6 2.c8=S+ Ka8 3.Qb6 [4.Qa7#]
1…Bb7 2.Qa5+ Ba6 3.c8=R Kb7 4.Qc7#

Two promotions are delayed, but still making AUW as answer to linear movement of bB is quiet stunning, in spite of all shortcomings.

An excellent problem despite the short threat
