A true motive inversion in the n#

(= 5+2 )

#3vv
1.Sa6? f5! 2.Sc5?? =
1.Th3? f6! 2.Sb5?? f5!
1.Sb5! f6/f5 2.Sd4/Th3
As the tries demonstrate, Black defends with f5 *only*
to stalemate himself, and White *only* uses the stalemate
to smoke out the king. (Objections? :-)

Chlubna in Das Matt des weissen Königs: "Im Mattproblem geht das ausschliesslich im Zusammenhang mit dem Patt, etwa wenn die beliebte Kombination Kling von Weiss als Seeberger-Einsperrung genutzt wird."

@Joose: Actually, I remember that sentence very well and had it
in my mind when I posted it. :-) (I don't remember, though,
if he spoke of motive inversion or called it elsewise.)
Thus I don't claim inventing breaking news :-)

Well he has only 'Verteidigungsmotiv und Schädigung sind identisch'...

It is of course more common in self mates and ongoing Wcct has such a theme.

No ... ongoing WCCT doesn't have such a theme. It can be shown, but it is not mandatory.
It was theme in 6th WCCT:

@Frank. You are right. Most of entries, including ours are showing motive inversion anyway. If black battery formation is mandatory, composers will find ways to use that battery for mate.
