Walter Jacobs

I'm planning to write an article on the Jacobs theme.
In this regard, I found some details online about Jacobs himself: https://history.computer.org/pioneers/jacobs-ww.html
I assume this is the same person, since the dates of birth and death given here match those in WinChloe.
Can any of our American friends give any additional information about him?

Norman Macleod's obituary of Jacobs appeared in the May 1982 issue of The Problemist, which you can find on the BCPS website. He is also covered in 'A Sketchbook of American Chess Problematists Volume 2', which can be viewed on Vaclav Kotesovec's website.

I found a more detailed biographical note: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?arnumber=4640515

There is a better photo of Jacobs. He is referred to as a "chess-problem formulator and solver"!

That's a very interesting eulogy - about someone involved in key technologies of the 20th century - and also about the man. Thanks for posting and I look forward to your article about the theme.

A reading of the eulogy shows that chess problems was one of his lowest priorities !

That eulogy was written by folks not familiar with Chess problems.
Jacobs did a lot of chess problem composing, editing and writing.
See this link for a complete dump of the problem pages of the Chess Review, 1936, when he was the editor: http://problem64.beda.cz/silo/the_chess_review_1936_problem_department.pdf

The original file had a wrong diagram for No.342.
This and other minor corrections have been made in the revised file by Juraj.

Some recent conversations with some composers active in areas of direct mates, selfmates and fairies with similar stipulations have revealed to me that there is still little knowledge about Conflictio outside of the small circle of composers to whom I send Conflictio directly. Therefore it was easy to miss updates on the original article on Jacobs theme. For your convenience, here is the list of all articles:

18 - "Jacobs Theme Redux"
24 - "Jacobs Theme Part Deux"
30 - "Jacobs Theme – addendum"
34 - "Jacobs Theme – another addendum"
39 - "The 4th addendum to the Jacobs Theme series"

All Conflictio issues including above are available on the Julia's website - https://juliasfairies.com/articles/#conflictio
And if you would be interested in receiving further issues (free), please, just let me know at my e-mail.
