The tables are now available at http://eccc2008.tsf.org.tr/ The juniors individual ranking shown there is obviously unofficial, since only 8 solvers from 6 countries participated.

Harry,
In principle You are right.
This happened probably because of high travel costs comparing to previous ECSCs.

By the way.
I have published a few photographs from ECSC:

Best regards from Athens.

Endgame #1 is very famous. This shouldn't have been used for solving competition! Same goes for #2! #6 should have been excluded since it was used in Kosteniuk's video podcast only a few weeks ago!

Obviously, this was a bad choice by the organizers!

Yes, I am pretty sure about that too. 2-3 solvers from Greece were planning to take part, but they soon realised that they could not afford the high travel cost (the cheapest return ticket Athens-Istanbul-Antalya that they could find was at 440 EUR!!) Pity, they wanted to come, but in the end they had to choose between ECSC and WCSC.

2Milan

Is it possible to publish the problems of Quick Solving and Solving Show tournaments in Antalya?
Thanks in advance.

Harry,
On the other hand during the final ceremony juniors received medals and cups,
so we thought that the junior championship was regarded as official.
It would be very unfortunate if this was another mistake...

I would guess that 'unofficial' means ineligible for titles/ratings. Prizes and diplomas may have nothing to do with the status of the competition.

I am very disappointed even with the suggestion to make the juniors ranking unofficial, to punish this wonderful young men for the absence of others. They travelled thousands of kilometers to compete, they showed great commitment and talent, they invested a lot of effort in solving... And what a sportsmanship we had a chance to testify! When Andrey Petrov heard that Roman Yevstignyeyev had mistakenly been omitted from the junior's table he immediately said: "I should give him my medal!". And so he did. We can learn a lot from these young gentlemen!

The boys deserve anything but being "annihilated"! I understand your worry about the rules, but I fear that the real reason is something less rational and very prejudiced!

If you insist on sticking to the rules, please take the official action in a proper place, not on this site! However, be sure that you're fighting the battle for a small justice by doing a big injustice!

All the choices and consequently all possible errors regarding solving competitions were made by me! The organizers were phenomenal!

P.S.: Sorry, I am still too tired - 7 days of a hard work, 5 solving competitions with total of 12 rounds is a little bit too much for my age. So I am trying to give just most important answers.

Sorry, then it was a bad choice by you. :-)

Anyway, I think solving six studies is too many.

...he has some old laptop without wireless card

This I take very personal. This "some old" laptop I bought three years ago for 1600 EUR. This is really a long period for any piece of hardware, but at the same time a very short period to dispose it and give another 1600 EUR for a new one! Everything's relative (my Albert)!

Nevertheless, I was provided by the organizers with a brand new wide screen Compaq laptop (still with a plastics on the top cover!) WITH the wireless card and with Vista operating system. Actually, six such laptops have been available there and I think that they have all been bought specially for this event! Besides, I was also provided with a very fast Xerox color laser printer in my hotel room to reproduce the Forms, Solutions sheets, Tables and whatever is necessary as quick as possible. The real truth is that I was so exhausted at end of each day that I simply didn't have the strength to login and type the reports for you. Anyway, there was a diligent young IT engeneer Emre Ceviz who regularly updated the news on the Turkish Chess Federation site.

It is a kind of disappointment after such a wonderful week in Turkey - an unpleasant "coming down" - to see your relatively cold reactions and "hot" critics (except - see below). Wish you were there, guys...

I am afraid it is not a suggestion, it is a fact. Rules are rules, and as soon as they are established and documented, we have to stick to them. It is simple as that, there is no prejudice, no intention of "punishment", "annihilation", or whatever.

Norms, titles and prizes have to be validated by the PCCC anyway.

There is no separate rating list for juniors, so it is irrelevant whether the competition was unofficial, or not. Since the conditions for a separate juniors competition are not fulfilled, they are considered as "normal" solvers.

The work that you and the organisers did was great, there's no doubt about that. However, a forum gives the chance to everybody to express opinions, impressions, critics, even if they were not present. This is quite normal and it is to be expected, I think.

Sorry for my ignorence - didn't know that feelings (like my disappointment) were not on the list :)

Regarding the rules, I could write a novel about how and when they have been bent or "creatively interpretated" only by PCCC, usualy depending on who is in question and where he is from; and, without exceptions, by those who stand in the first lines in defending the rules. But I have no time for it, there are more important things I have to do (right now, a few hundereds issues of the magazine which have been printed just before my trip to Antalya must be packed and shipped...)
