#101? This means starting anew! (Yeah! To be fully 4chan-compliant,
I now would have to call me GET-happy. [Defused to not make Andrew
a sad panda :-)])

You probably all thought, "What is the point of wK in check when
you at most can unpin two pieces to maximize the number of black moves,
the checking piece being pinned itself otherwise Black not being
stalemated, the interfering piece being pinned after the key and
the one THAT piece unpinned wreaking havoc?

And I thought: Frell it! 23! :-)
(= 10+6 )

With promoted material and quasi-duals it can be easily extended to 25.

Some addenda:

(= 8+6 )

24(2), very dualistic

(= 8+10 )

25(3), with promo and check but no duals

Wonderful beats of the orignal 20, Hauke!

I am proud to have contributed the king check idea, the rest is Hauke's :-)

Aren't there a few duals in the last one? After 1... Rg5,Rg6,Rg7,Rg8 White has both 2. Rg3 and Rd3.

(Homer Simpson imitation) D'oh! I just looked at the sB not
playing silly bugger that I completely forgot to check the R :-(
Should really move to Olive which finds this automatically
via Popeye (I like my minimalistic MateMaster but it does not
show variants at all. THX for noting.

But now for some content again :-)
Jacques suggested merely adding more moves to the set. One could try to semi-unpin a Q (+28):
(= 10+9 )

Problem chess is dangerous to your health - this lil bastich kept me up until one o'clock in the night and it still sucks. Especially the fact that 1.Rd4! also *takes* a few move from the Rd6 is inacceptable. (The inverse matrix B/R is still more hopeless.)

Yes, Hauke ... I recommend to take a break and have a KitKat and to check thread's title carefully ;-)

Protest! The last one is crappy but NOT incorrect :-)
(In the standard sense - I didn't check thoroughly if
there is a dual after a defense against Rf7#.
This is just an incentive to Jacques to top his
entry about added mates, without any dual on any
of the added moves, and a demo why this is very hard ;-)

a slightly lighter version of post(81)

(= 10+7 )
2#

1.Rf4!

1.Rg4? Bd4!

2 (21) or 21 (2)

After ages (had to pass my Master exam, y'know :-) an incentive for Jacques, a matrix for 22 and possibly even more (still slight duals after Rg4 and Re2):

(= 12+9 )

1.Re4!

And after one year of work (nope, ten minutes waiting
for the ultimate inspiration :-) dual-free 22 are done!

(= 12+6 )

post 107, remedy of Rd6 moves taken:

(= 11+10 )

EDIT: rotated, then 52-24=28 added moves

P.S. An article (for Problemas - THX Joaquim!) is very in the works
and only needs a few last corrections.

Some interesting non-multi-record addition with excellent key
only mentioned in the upcoming article, but deserving a post
(6 B, 5 unique, 3 movable)

Laszlo Apro, Illustrierter Beobachter, 9.4.1932

@Jacques: 112 suffers (apart from the obvious :-) from pseudo-duals
(duals which are none by standard definition, but occur if Black
ignores the threat and plays Ra7 or so). In your setting this is
not the case.
113 is indeed a great find (I wonder what is still hidden in the 500+
potentially thematic problems on the Albrecht) and almost a "z record"
(to achieve: >6 different variants, divided on more than one piece).
Technically, your outrageous 7B+1P is the known record holder, but a
more "conventional" setting for that sure is possible.
(Still ~350 thematic problems with a K flight to check!)
Maybe I bite...

Finds to ">=6 variants, >=2 pieces".

Giese (Albrecht 112482), slight dual:
(= 7+4 )

Just my first try with 7 variants distributed on 2 pieces (record?):
(= 9+4 )
