A mysterious task
Daniel Papack sent me the following diagram, probably published some decades ago and showing Loshinski's magnet in task form. Who knows details about author and source? Thanks in advance.

This is problem by Milan Velimirovic. I am at work so I cannot tell you source right now but I'can find it later during the evening. This is a wonderful problem by founder of this MatPlus forum. He has hundreds of problems that are masterpieces like this one. Unfortunately he passed away too young.

?? But they are two different problems.

Diagram no.2 shows half of the thematical contents (+3 'substitutional' variations without Bristol effect), while you won't find the first neither in Album nor any public database.
And this appeared to me 'mysterious'.

Yes. It is indeed a mystery. More one looks at Milan's problem, the more I admire it. It is a such great problem, at once easy to understand and admire. Only a master can make a maximum task in such a beautiful setting. So sad that we no longer have him with us.

I think that I can explain why this problem did not make it to the FIDE ALBUM. At the time Milan was very disappointed with how FIDE ALBUM selection process works so he did not want to send any of his problems. Basically he was boycotting FA. Otherwise I am sure that this problem would make it to the album. Later on he did start sending problems again and he become GM in composing of chess problems. Unfortunately there is period of (10-15 years) without his problems in FIDE ALBUM (with an exception of composition where he is a coauthor).

Showing the same task with threatening play would be an absolute masterpiece, wouldn't it?

Milan quoted this problem in the thread 'More Nth degree black corrections in 3#'.

.. vs. the "boycott theory" : In that Album, author MV is represented with a dozen of his works, and none of them is a co-production.
So this part of mystery remains secret of the deceased Album judges.

Thanks Geoff for pointing out the old link. Milan explains his view on this problem there quoting precedent problems using similar stalemate avoidance idea.
"You won't find this position neither in FIDE Album, nor in WinChloe or other databases. Even friends to whom I showed the problem didn't accept it with the enthusiasm. Nevertheless, I am convinced that this is an important task ....."
Perhaps the judges took the predecessors into account, blissfully ignoring that this is a new maximum task.

Also, this predecessor/anticipation (but with one thematic variation less) may have kept it from a higher award:
Shakhmaty v SSSR 1972
