Version of already published 3-mover

(= 11+12 )

#3 (Tries)

This was my original attempt, which was edited somewhat before publication.

Hello Roddy,

I just checked this version (but not the tries).
Some remarks:
After the obvious 1.e4! (2.S:f3+ Q:f3 3.S:f7#) we see two variants with e.p. captures. Both end with duals - d:e3 2.Q:a1 ~ 3.b3/b4# resp. f:e3 2.Bh2+ Sg3 3.Q,B:g3#, a clear drawback. The play after 1.- Bd5 is okay. Next problem is legality of given position: black pawns needed 5 captures, but due to wPb2d2 the original Bc1 could never be captured, so position is illegal.
I hope, in final position both defects were avoided?

Hi Frank,

Thanks for pointing out the illegal position, no wonder this wasn't published !

In the variation with dxe3, Qa1 only b4 mates against 2...Kd4 but otherwise there is a cook.

The published version was credited to "Roddy McKay and John Rice" and appeared in the Problemist Supplement some years ago. It was more than somewhat different, it was actually very different from the position above.
