Most of our monthly zoom calls have been on Saturdays at about noon GMT to allow folk from most of the populated timezones to participate. Attendee numbers continue to be healthy hurray. However, not everyone can make Saturdays - I’ve had a request to hold it on other days sometimes. Sundays at the same time would also work. Does anyone have any opinions about this? A fixed day of the week? Alternate between Sat & Sun? Please let me know thanks!

Dear chess friends,

As agreed, in 2023 we will be alternating the last Saturday & last Sunday of the month for zoom meetings. And as agreed, the next Zoom meeting will be on Saturday 28th January.

As regulars know, it’s a very informal affair. Attendees are younger on average, but there is substantial composing and solving skill amongst the ranks.

Time remains noon GMT, which equates to 9pm Japan, 8pm Singapore/Hong Kong, 5.30 India, noon in continental Europe, 11am UK, 7am East Coast USA.

The meeting lasts for about 4 hours, but people come and go as they choose.

If you have a friend who wants to join, please contact me and I will send them an invite.

As usual please bring problems for general solving, topics for discussion, jokes etc. Problems discussed in such a private call are not considered to have been published, so this can be a good opportunity to try stuff out.

Love to all,
Andrew

PS: Hope to have the first ever attendee from South America!

Where do you think that my "avatar picture" on Julia's fairies (https://juliasfairies.com/problems/no-1729/ ) was taken?

Dear chess friends,

As agreed, in 2023 we will be alternating between the last Saturday & last Sunday of the month for zoom meetings. So the next Zoom meeting will be on *Sunday* 26th February.

As regulars know, it’s a very informal affair. The average age of attendees is low, but there is substantial composing and solving skill amongst the ranks.

Time remains noon GMT, which equates to 9pm Japan, 8pm Singapore/Hong Kong, 5.30 India, noon in continental Europe, 11am UK, 7am East Coast USA.

The meeting lasts for about 4 hours, but people come and go as they choose.

Some folk were always blocked on Saturdays, so hopefully the alternation of Sat with Sun can work. Is this an improvement from your perspective, Hauke?

Well, given that I am the punchingball of the universe,
holding the chat on Saturday will mean I am free on Sunday,
and vice versa. You can't win ;-)

Dear chess friends,

Following our experiment with Sundays, we are to returning to Saturdays as our regular day of the week for our monthly calls.
As regulars know, it’s a very informal affair. The average age of attendees is low, but there is substantial composing and solving skill amongst the ranks.

Time is noon GMT on Saturday 25th March which equates to 9pm Japan, 8pm Singapore/Hong Kong, 5.30 India, noon in continental Europe, 11am UK, 7am East Coast USA/Canada

The meeting can last for about 4 hours, but people come and go as they choose.
If you have a friend who wants to join, please contact me (<@579986778564329502>) and I will send them an invite.

As usual please bring problems for general solving, topics for discussion, jokes etc. Problems discussed in such a private call are not considered to have been published, so this can be a good opportunity to try stuff out.

Love to all,
Andrew

Hurray James. Sorry Hauke. There is also a chance that over-the-board IM Paul Littlewood will drop in from his cruise ship

Dear chess friends,

The next zoom call will be on Saturday 29 April. As regulars know, it’s a very informal affair, but there is substantial composing and solving skill amongst the young ranks.

Time is noon GMT, which I think equates at the moment to 9pm Japan, 8pm Singapore/Hong Kong, 5.30 India, 2pm in continental Europe, 1pm UK, 9am East Coast USA/Canada, 7am Peru. Please always check.

The meeting lasts for up to 4 hours, but people come and go as they choose.
If you have a friend who wants to join, please contact me by Notes here or email and I will send them an invite.

As usual please bring problems for general solving, topics for discussion, jokes etc. Problems discussed in such a private call are not considered to have been published, so this can be a good opportunity to try stuff out.

Dear chess friends,

The next zoom call will be on Saturday 27 May. I can't believe the month has passed so quickly.

As regulars know, it’s a very informal affair, but there is substantial composing and solving skill amongst the ranks.

Time is noon GMT, which equates at the moment I believe to 9pm Japan, 8pm Singapore/Hong Kong, 5.30 India, 2pm in continental Europe, 1pm UK, 9am East Coast USA/Canada, 7am Peru. Please check your local time to avoid disappointment.

The meeting lasts for typically 3-4 hours, but people come and go as they choose.

As usual please bring problems for general solving, topics for discussion, jokes etc. Problems discussed in such a private call are not considered to have been published, so this can be a good opportunity to try stuff out.
