Could you provide some more details on this? (what kind of solutions were missed, any examples, etc.) |

Well done on the release of this Thomas! (Now I can test some of my problems with Protean Men.) By the way, I do hope I didn't offend you in my writing about PGNs/XML etc. in the other thread: pardon my relative ignorance in computer matters. |

@Thomas. Thomas, since you are now the Popeye 'team leader', I suppose you are the person to ask: Is there any possibility that documentation of future versions of Popeye might include definitions of _all_ of the Fairy genres and pieces it accomodates? For example, I have absolutely no idea what "Geneva Chess" (implemented with Popeye 4.41) is; what are its rules? I would be prepared to help with this mammoth task... |

QUOTE Is there any possibility that documentation of future versions of Popeye might include definitions of _all_ of the Fairy genres and pieces it accomodates?
Yes, there is. I don't think that such documentation is an essential part of Popeye, but if somebody is willing to provide it, I'll be happy to include it in the distribution and/or host it as part of the sourceforge project.
On the other hand, I think that it would be nice for Popeye to document *how* certain fairy pieces or conditions (or combinations thereof) are implemented. Many fairy chess features are underspecified simply because their inventors weren't psychic. E.g.
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1747928&group_id=200122&atid=972237
Or that locusts are reborn differently in AntiCirce by WinChloe and Popeye.
QUOTE For example, I have absolutely no idea what "Geneva Chess" (implemented with Popeye 4.41) is; what are its rules?
It's a condition invented last year by a well known problemist living in Geneva; I have been informed that some problems featuring Geneva Chess will appear in magazines "real soon now".
QUOTE I would be prepared to help with this mammoth task...
I won't be the driving force of this, but if you are (or find someone who is), I'll be glad to give you access to the sourceforge facilities under the Popeye project. Just tell me what is needed. |

Maybe you can ask Hilmar Ebert (I think) or whoever has that "Problemschach-Lexikon" in the internet to provide the fairy pieces and conditions he collected so one only has to translate it?
PS, January 24th: Popeye is a very useful program. Many thanks! |

That's a good idea Siegfried! Also useful would be the recent FIDE Album Indexes (in 3 languages!) - unless there are copyright issues... (But one could easily get around that by using the art of the paraphrase.) I think also that, as for an English lexicon, I could come up with the goods in a majority of cases; in this regard, my back-issues of "The Problemist" are another excellent source of Fairy-information. |

@Thomas: Thanks for all of that! Yes, in conversations I've had with Stephen Emmerson (phone calls from Australia to the United Kingdom are quite cheap!), he expressed much the same thoughts - particularly regarding Fairy combinations. Certainly, sometime in the future, what I am able to do is e-mail you a text-file of as many English-language definitions as I can find; but you will need to tell me your e-mail address first! |

Dear Thomas Maeder,
is this time normal? The first four tested moves could be excluded since the pawns are on h2 and g2, but then...
(it took really that time so no bug at displaying)

QUOTE Is this time normal?
I have no idea what is to be considered normal.
Since Lortap is a new feature of Popeye, it may well be that less optimisations are used than would be possible. |

QUOTE Or that locusts are reborn differently in AntiCirce by WinChloe and Popeye.
You are right, this used to be an issue, yet starting with this January's update, WinChloe can treat reborn locusts in Anticirce like Popeye does with the additional condition "Une pièce capturante renaît relativement à la case de capture". It might be useful to have also Popeye "understand" both options. |

QUOTE Bug fixes
---------
The Changes text for 4.41 has just been amended, because one bug fixed in 4.41 was forgotten at the time:
- Imitator+Maximummer: castling moves may not have been generated (cf. issue 1870463)
NB: 4.45 was published shortly after 4.43; 4.45 wasn't publicised because it is almost exclusively of interest for composers of problems with the stipulation ser-a=>b |
