| | (1) Posted by Mihail Croitor [Monday, Jan 19, 2009 15:55] | Gurgenidze's endgame is cooked? One my friend anounced me that endgame by Gurgenidze, taked 1-3 prize at Akobia JT, is cooked.
(= 8+7 )
D.Gurgenidze, win,
2007, 1/3 prize, Akobia 70JT
Solution (for preview try - http://www.endgame.tu2.ru/pgnlive.php?pid=12230):
1.Ka8 g2 2.e5 $3 {Thematic try} (2.b8=Q $5 Qxb8+ 3.Kxb8 bxa5 4.Rxg7 axb4 5.Rg6+
Ka5 6.Kb7 b3 7.a3 b4 8.Rg5+ Ka4 9.Nb2+ Rxb2 10.Ka6 bxa3 {impossible
Rg4#}) 2...Qxe5 3.b8=Q Qxb8+ 4.Kxb8 bxa5 5.Rxg7 axb4 6.Rg6+ Ka5 7.Kb7 b3
8.a3 b4 9.Rg5+ Ka4 10.Nb2+ $3 (10.Ka6 $5 b2 $1 $19) 10...Rxb2 11.Ka6 (11.Kb6 $4 g1=Q+ $19)
11...Kxa3 {Main} (11...bxa3 12.Rg4# {result of move 2.e5!!}) 12.Ra5# {.
Realized the excellent "look ahead" try and synthesis of two
beautiful mates. All is in spirit of the author here.} 1-0
But after
2.b8=Q (or 2.b8=N+!?) Qxb8+ 3.Kxb8 bxa5
(= 6+6 )
4.Ra7+! Kb6 5.bxa5+ Kc5 6.Rxg7 Rxd1 7.Rxg2 Rd8+ 8.Kc7 Ra8 9.Rc2+ with +-
Is it all correct? | | (2) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Monday, Jan 19, 2009 16:26]; edited by Sarah Hornecker [09-01-19] | Your claim is correct. I can't believe this was simply overlooked since a similar thing as given in your dual would happen after 2...Qh8+! instead 2...Qxe5.
bPh3 is missing as can be seen in final award. http://akobia.geoweb.ge/Awards/Akobia70JTaward.pdf
Also bPh3 is in PGN file: http://akobia.geoweb.ge/Awards/Akobia%2070JT.pgn
You definitely used the preliminary award (see [1]) that had bPh3 missing as I can confirm. I believe in a printing mistake here since due to the reason I gave above a pawn always must have been on the h-file. So I don't think Gurgenidze just added the pawn later but by conclusion it is probable the PDF was incorrect.

PS: Since one looks at diagrams first, here is the correct diagram:
(= 8+8 )
FEN F1K6/1P3Rp1/kp6/Pp6/1P2P3/6pp/P6q/1r1N4
David Gurgenidze
Akobia 70 JT, 1st to 3rd prize
White wins
