I've probably asked this question some 8-10 years ago somewhere, but I don't remember what, if any, response I got--the answer may have changed between now and then anyway. Does anyone know the length record for a direct-mate problem where *all* the variations are dual-free (even when black makes "stupid" moves)?
Thanks for your help :)

this also could be one - but I can't play through the solution with WinChloe so I only can assume by the moves

I think there are duals

I think, this is THE Zwickmühle
Lovuschka / Siegfried Hornecker (21:18:39 CET)
so there are no duals, I guess
Jangler NPL / Jeffrey (21:18:56 CET)
oh yes, this one was quoted in Morse's book as longest all-checking problem. I'm pretty sure there are duals
jrotenberg / Jacques Rotenberg (21:19:17 CET)
though all the move are checks only in the main line

| | (3) Posted by Jeffrey [Tuesday, May 20, 2008 18:15] | Well, I broke down and bought WinChloe (the light version), and searched a bit myself; I'm fairly confident this one's dual-free (all of black's moves are forced, so if there are duals, it's because white has a shorter way to mate, which I don't think is the case.)

I'll type in the solution, if there's interest. | | (4) Posted by Kevin Begley [Friday, May 30, 2008 11:56] | Incredible problem!!! | | No more posts |
