Amazing is outstanding performance by Viacheslav Kulikov from Russia (born 1991, rating 2364, http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=4172965) who solved all problems (group B) in excellent time, much better than favorites as grandmaster Chirila Ioan-Cristian from Romania 5 points (95 min.), http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=1211668, rating 2526 or international master Roganovic Milos from Serbia 4 points (110 min.), http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=937614, rating 2485.
Kulakov used to win several times at the previous similar Youth competition and I suggest Russian Chess Problems Federation to pay very much attention on his chess solving capabilities!
For all solvers in group B especially difficult was Reti study (no. 9). Only five solvers solved correctly this problem (write correctly just first move what has been asked). I selected very difficult problems for solving competition. Usually at that kind of competition it is rule to be given five #2, two #3, one #4 and one study where solvers write only the first move. I am wondering if somebody of readers at this Forum can try to solve all problems in better time than the winner (59 minutes). Mostly twomovers have been taken from Pastime section from this site, especially ones which I could not solve easily!? Take care that it is not obliged to write variations in threemovers, fourmover and study (only first move). Also, pay attention that Mladenovic problem which was original at the solving competition (#4 in group B) will be officialy published in Politika 2009 (20.07.2009) and from that time it will be new source for this problem. By the way, this problem has been correctly solved by only six solvers (among 22). | | (2) Posted by Axel Gilbert [Friday, Jul 17, 2009 19:22]; edited by Axel Gilbert [09-07-17] | Even the -14 competition wasn't that easy.
Unfortunately, the links are broken now.
edit : repaired ! | | (3) Posted by Miodrag Mladenović [Saturday, Jul 18, 2009 08:29] | It looks like problem #9 in the second group of problems is printed incorrectly. Any white move is draw so there must be some missing piece.
Branko, can you correct this please? | | (4) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Saturday, Jul 18, 2009 09:02] | The only incorrect thing there is the stipulation. White has to win, not to draw.

This was old sheet with problems under 18 and corrected just before the competition. I can not change anything on this web site but only organizers could. So right stipulation was: White wins! Before the start of solving competition I emphasized to all participants that problems are difficult to solve. | | No more posts |
