- Parody on the Bohemian school: Model mates where the economy
is lousy as each piece only covers one flight. (Had this here somewhere, methinks)
- Parody on White to Play: Albrecht #148.829
- Parody on the "Modern" in general: There is an Ellerman #2 with much letter themes but only as tries, and a checking key, I think Grasemann explicitely called it such.
- Parody on White Line combination: Argueably, many in my infamous SCHWALBE article which made me a nonperson there :-)
I.e., everything that has a distinctive style may also be parodied, but also argueably this needs even more virtuosity than the real thing.
Mind to elongate the list? (How would a Retro parody look?) | | (2) Posted by Joose Norri [Saturday, Oct 16, 2021 03:00] | This Bohemian received a lot of criticism for being uneconomical, five such model mates as you described - but also a lot of admiration:

But I see no point why to criticise it or why to see such problems as "parody" (in case that they fit principles of Bohemian school and have at least three model mates, not eg. one such variation). Problems with octet (all white officers on the board) are in Bohemian school usually highly appreciated, because it is difficult to achieve their economy in thematic variations (of course, usually some of them are captured in the solution). | | (4) Posted by Joose Norri [Saturday, Oct 16, 2021 21:45] | Yes absolutely. This one got a lot of criticism from other Bohemian composers in 1948, of course not for being a "parody". I'm not sure where I read about it, I must admit. | | (5) Posted by shankar ram [Sunday, Oct 17, 2021 17:55] | These days, there is a tendency to use WinChloe's and Helpmate analyser's theme discovery feature to list out various themes and effects in problems that were never consciously intended!
May fit into the "Parody" paradigm? | | (6) Posted by Andrew Buchanan [Tuesday, Oct 26, 2021 04:08] | I suspect, sadly, that like many I am an unconscious but accurate self-parodist :-) | | No more posts |
