I think, this mechanism is not new.
Following position is quite ugly too, but saves one third of pieces:
(= 8+10 ) s#2
1.Rb5! f5 2.d4+ Ke4#
1.- c:b5 2.Qd5+ K:d5#
Without Pe6 we would have also 1.- e6 2.Qd4+, but there are cooks. |

@Frank: My beef here would be that Rb4 stands behind the Q,
so "three lines" is debatable. What about
(= 11+10 )
with sort of a "Sonderform"? (White first opens the line
which is subsequently closed). Also, I immediately see the
possibility that Se3 could threat something like Sxg4 Rxg4#.
EDIT: Like this?
(= 11+10 )

WR is unused. |

True, but not exactly an unknown blemish
considering the same theme in the #2. :-)
(= 10+11 )
At least a bit more play and tries with the unused rook.
@Frank: digging up a concrete anticipation would
be of help if I even write an article :-) |

P1202658
Vladimir N. Zabunov
4193 Schach , p. 60, 02/1963
(= 8+14 ) s#2
1.Bh5! [2.Bxf3+ Bxf3#]
1... g4 2.c4+ Ke4#
1... c4 2.e4+ Kc5#
Move Be8->g6, then 1.Bg6-h5 will unguard e4. |

Another example:
P1250119
Laszlo Talaber
340 Problem 05/1953
1st Prize
(= 11+13 ) s#2
1.Qc3! ~ 2.Rf4+ Kxf4#
1...Sb1/Sb3 2.Se3+ Qxe3#
1...Sf3 2.e4+ Kf4#
1...Se4 2.dxe4+ Kf4#
1...Sc4 2.Qxf6+ Kxf6#
The g4 square (more precisely, the mating line) is attacked by two white linear pieces bR and wB (indirectly after e4+).
It is possible to get a third guard of g4 by changing the position a little:
(= 11+13 )
or
(= 11+13 ) 1.Qh8? f6! 1.Qc3! |

@Viktoras: THX for the interesting examples.
Note, though, that in the latter ones Sf3 doesn't (preemptively)
cut a line to a flight but a line to an interference. |
