Strong "NO" against smilies, especially automatic. They pollute the text.

Also no signatures please. They have no sense whatsoever in forum context. One may have a wise saying in his profile, if so desired.

I agree with Ilja. Perhaps one day we will replace this with another forum engine (phpBB?) and then we will have all of these fancy features.

I think, using avatars is a good idea, but only with function "don't show avatars" (if someone doesn't feel like watching my ugly face, he'll choose it)

I miss search function a lot. Not sure why Milan doesn't allow Google to index it. Snapshot(http://milanvel.net/mp/snapshot/index.html) is indexed but not completely(?) since I could find some threads.
