Alybadix and Windows 7

Has anyone some knowledge about using Alybadix under W7. There seems to be a XP mode in the W7. Alybadix runs good under XP but not under Vista (32MB limit).

Please check this thread and, if possible, report back here.

I know this solutions although I never tried. I am not so handy in this stuff. Software just simply needs to work without any extra handling. Therefore my question. I have two PC's one on XP, and one on Vista, so you may guess where I am running Alybadix. But maybe this 32MB limit is over with W7 in XP-mode.

The trouble will most probably be the same also in Windows 7, the compatibility XP mode is not relevant to this issue. I can help you, if you want, with a step-by-step guide on how you apply the registry fix, it is not difficult at all. If you are interested, please send a note, so that we can arrange it. And, by the way, this fix cures the 32M memory limit, but it does not help with the other issue of corrupt graphics in Alybadix under Vista if you run it in a command prompt box; but I guess you are using the APWin GUI, so this is not a real problem.

Will running Alybadix in DosBox work for the graphics problem?

Never thought that this emulator could help here :) I remember that I used it years ago to play "Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon" and it worked like a miracle! I tried it, but it allocates only 1M for the address space and 12M for the position tree, and as soon as I enter my pass, it simply hangs. So, it seems that the only working option to run Alybadix in Vista is with APWin: you can't run Alybadix itself in fullscreen mode and the graphics are distorted in a command prompt box.

 QUOTE
There seems to be a XP mode in the W7.

To my information, it is actually an emulation, with a low graphics card (S3 something?) and similarly low specs, also available only at the expensive licenses (Professional(???), Ultimate and Enterprise?). So natively running chess programs under Windows 7 should yield better results, although theoretically the RAM of the XP emulation should allow enough for Alybadix' 32 MB (IIRC it's 512 MB).

Oh yeah, there's a possibility to natively use Windows XP under Windows 7 but it involves purchasing a third-party software (forgot the name) that supports direct hardware access and running it there instead on the XP mode of Windows 7.

I mean, I was looking forward to this as a great feature until I saw it's actually another kind of Virtual PC. Or is it? Any additional info is welcome.

Solution, how break 32 MB DPMI memory limit for DOS programs under 32-bit Windows7 (same as under Vista): Use "Regedit" and add item "DpmiLimit" to registry
I tested it today (working!) and updated my old article

(with two screenshots)
I think that Windows XP 32-bit is better system than Windows7, but one improvement I found: allocated memory for Alybadix was 1564 MB, this is more than under Windows XP (usually 1285 MB).
