Future of MatPlusForum?

Does anybody of Milan's close friends know how long his creation
will run without him? Guess it's emergency backup time.

So sad to hear this question. Another one... Will there be another issue of Matplus Review ? Can anything be the same without Milan .... :( :(

Has anybody admin rights for the MatPlusForum? Who is going to pay for matplus.net?

Furthermore: This Website has a great ability to submit problems which I would love to see used by any chess problem magazine. This is certainly something that needs to be saved.

How can we help getting things working?

Hauke: No answer.

Sven: Nobody has the admin rights at the moment, and nobody knows how the system works. Milan’ sister is very much willing to keep the site alive, and to ask an expert programmer to help. Serbian problemists are willing to help. This may take time, and solving the problems of legal rights.

Seetharaman: Nothing could be the same without Milan. These were entirely Milan’s personal projects. We could only hope some talented, generous, and hard working youngster will try to go his way, one day. If there is one, he’d better start preparing right away.
Serbian problemists will try to complete the last issue of the Mat Plus Review and to publish it. As far as I understood, most of the material was ready. The authors of the articles and other materials prepared for publishing in the Mat Plus may help by sending the pdf files they received from Milan for proofreading.
This is the only possible help that I see at the moment. With any other concrete offer you may contact me: kovacevic.marjan@gmail.com.

>"OMG. What a show by one man !! :("

Yeah, you said it!
And, I fully expect that a team of people will be overwhelmed to learn just out how much this one guy did.
If Mat Plus goes dark, we all take one giant leap backwards -- remember "rec.games.chess.problems" anyone? Sigh.

So, we not only have to cope with the grief of losing somebody who was a friend and mentor to so many, and somebody who brightened our lives with his masterful problems and insightful articles, we have yet to cope with the potential loss of his forum, his journal & review, and all the wonderful enrichment that his software provided.

And, then it dawns on you that we have yet to grieve for the future: things will not be the same... will never come close to what might have been.
I didn't even really have the opportunity to get to know Milan, personally; and yet, it's not just sadness -- I feel a palpable sense of loss, to have lost that chance.
I thought there'd be more time... maybe a chance to thank Milan personally, for all he did to enrich our passion...
And, I don't think anybody fully appreciates just how much he did (nor how much was involved, just to make the world of chess problems a better place to be)!

The best way to thank him now, in my opinion, is to keep his passion alive (especially Mat Plus Review, and Forum)...
If there's anything I can do to help, I'd consider it an honor just to be asked.
And, I expect many will only feel more dedicated.

That is actually one of the first things I thought when I was again able to think. Without Milan, chess composition has lost several years, it is now up to us to decide if that is five or fifteen years; i.e. if with an irreplacable man we also "only" lose a high-quality magazine or additionally the very place that gives us a voice.

Perhaps WFCC can adopt the Matplus Forum ?

I don't think Milan would have agreed to that?

It seems like the most desirable outcome would be for the MP Forum to continue serving its great role - not least as a living memorial to Milan. Should that prove difficult or very costly, I have offered the services of ChessProblem.net (http://chessproblem.net). I have plenty of space that could be used to store Archives. And the forum is very customizable to suit the needs of the chess problem community. (Perhaps even existing threads from the MP forum could be exported there.) At any rate, if there's any interest in this, please feel free to be in touch directly: alexander.george@gmail.com.

Regards,

Alexander George

Mat Plus doesn't require a government takeover, by PCCC/WFCC... lol -- but, perhaps PCCC should have regulators watching some other journals closely. :-)

Milanvel.net is in the process of activating.
Milan’s sister is willing to keep the domain matplus.net alive, too.
