Waldemar Tura - 3rd Pr. Wola Gulowska 2006 [S#2]

Waldemar Tura
3rd Pr. Wola Gulowska 2006
(= 8+11 )

s#2

Try: 1.Bc3? (2.Qf4+/Qg5+ Rd2#)
but 1...Sf7! & Sg6!

Solution: 1.Bf5! (2.Be3+ Rd2#)
1...Sf7 2.Qg5+ Sg5:#
1...Sg6 2.Qf4+ Sf4:#

This problem shows theme "Zuka". Very nice mechanism. It's unusual that white first move takes flight of wK (selfblock on f5). However by adding three pieces it's possible to avoid flight taking key. Here is my version of this problem:

Waldemar Tura
3rd Pr. Wola Gulowska 2006
(version by Miodrag Mladenovic)
(= 9+13 )

s#2

Try: Same as above.
1.Bc3? (2.Qf4,Qg5+ Rd2#)
1...Sf7! & 1...Sg6!

Solution:
1.Bb3! (2.Be3+ Rd2#)
1...Sf7 2.Qg5+ Sg5:#
1...Sg6 2.Qf4+ Sf4:#

If I composed this problem originally, I think that I would be wondering if I should publish more economical position or position without flight taking key. Since black has strong BR battery that guards f5 after opening flight taking key does not look so bad. So in my opinion original position is better because it does have three pieces less then version without flight taking key. I am wondering what is an opinion of other problemists on this question? Excellent problem anyway, well deserving 3rd prize.

In your version, take off the ugly wPa4 and enjoy the additional try 1.Ba4? c5! (Be honest: This was a test for us, wasn't it? ;-) )

Misha,
I would prefer your version, but without the redundant Pa4 (1.Ba4? c5!). So only 2 pieces more...
Oh, Hartmut has anticipated me! Sorry.

Misha,

place the black queen on b1 and the black bishop on c8. Then the rook on b8 is superflous.

We are approaching what is called "Letztform" in Germany, aren't we?

Before it is too late, may I suggest the removal of BPg2?

PS: also WRf2 to h2 and remove BPf3!

No good idea. The pawns are necessary to avoid additional threats (Qf1, Rf1(h1)) after 1.Bc3?.

How about this version (1 piece less then original position, without flight taking key and no white powns):

(= 6+12 )

This looks pretty much like a "Letztform" to me! Good for you, Misha!

Altough here only one piece less is needed as by Tura, seems the position much more lighter and is really delightful. Not in every case "too many cooks spoil the broth".

Of course, Misha! How can it be any different?
