Construction: hang your queen

In yesterdays match, two <expletíve deleted> of my chess club managed
a queen suicide (they already have been sent to the dungeon,
with some hungry mutant cockroaches as company :-), one actively by
Qb6-e3 Sd2-c4, the other cut off the hinterland of Qb3 by Rb8-b4 Ra1-a3.

So, let's make a fairy h#1 with a royal queen (silly name, isn't it? :-)
out of this.

(= 2+4 )

Maximum 27 achieved.

Obvious follow-up: How many flights in the starting position do you
manage with a non-Q key? (No additional fairy conditions, please.)

There are 19 with the bQ in the corner (is that allowed?) but probably 20 are somehow possible - maybe even more?!

By the way, you can have your queen-move 1 unit less also - here the wPa6 could also be "royal" for balance...:

(= 2+3 )

Now I see 22 flights with the bQ not in the corner...

THX for the improvement, I was in a hurry :-)
Oh, and it doesn't matter where the Q stands.

Here is a miniatue with a non Queen key:
(= 5+2 )
h#1 1.Ke4 Bb2(#)

In the diagram position the Queen has all the 27 possible moves; however, a Royal (sic) Queen would have only 10 legal moves: a1, d1, g1, e4, g4, h4, e5,f6, g7, h8. So, how about finding a position that maximizes the number of legal moves a Royal Queen has lost when she was mated?

For example:(= 4+2 )
h#1 1.Ka7 Rg8(#)
The black Royal Queen had 17 legal moves in the initial position.

It is possible to go as high as 22 moves (21 if miniature). This seems to be the maximum. I will not give the diagram, yet, because I think it is interesting for other people to try.

So, here is the challenge:
Construct a position for a h#1 to the black Queen. The Queen does not play the first black move. In the initial position, the black Queen has 22 moves that don't commit suicide.

I will post the diagram in a couple of days, unless, of course, somebody solves it earlier

If the queen is royal, the black King is:
a1) Also Royal, and siamese?
a2) Also Royal, and Rex Multiplex?
a3) Non-Royal?
b) Needed?

@Kevin
The bK is irrelevant. In the version I suggest, I have both Kings, so that the position is normal (orthodox). You don't need to checkmate the King. See the post No.6 for an example, with less Queen moves.

Kostas,

Are you miscounting?
The Royal Queen can not legally move to attacked squares.

Edit: No, looks like you are counting correctly. I think I understand your challenge now.

But, why use the King? Cannot your first diagram (post #5) be shown this way?
(= 5+2 )

OK, the black King is non-royal in your diagram... otherwise h#1 is solved in a variety of ways.
So, you must intend the black King to be non-royal.

The black King is not necessary. Only the bQ is supposed to be mated. I never thought there would be complications, if the King was included in the diagram. The Kings are not necessary, and can be replaced by any other piece. Try to get to 22 moves without the use of any Kings.

OK, first, here's a small improvement on your #6, without use of a non-royal King:

(= 4+2 )

Does this give 22 (in miniature)?

(= 5+2 )

Better yet, 23 (if you eliminate the wK, you can have this in miniature form)

(= 6+2 )

Remember that the Queen does not move. A different piece plays the first move for Black. Otherwise, Post #1 shows 27 such moves.

OK, I'll try w/o bQ moving, but I did manage 23 in miniature form (using your Queen-hunter configuration).
I suspect this is max for any form, for a bQ key.

Maybe you've invented a new kind fairy condition: Movimaxxer/Moviminner: Black must select from among the moves which provide the most/least # of legal moves.

Good luck finding a key, to turn this into a #2. :)

OK, I managed 25.

(= 2+2 )

= paralyzing camel. :)

For some reasons I am ignored here (besides by Hauke...) :((
Please look that I already had the black queen hanging with its key move with 5 units (post 2) and announced the 22 flights (@Kostas!) in post 3... I also need for that 8 units, for 21 flights 6 units!
Obviously any "orthodox" kings are superfluos - see Hauke's post 1.

@Arno,

Kostas' challenge is to do this w/o moving the Royal Queen on move 1, while keeping 22 flights in the initial diagram.
It is non-trivial.

I think I managed it:

(= 4+4 )

Well done, Kevin. This is the position I found, too (only mirrored).
