Longest composing career
Which composer had the longest gap between his first and last published problems? Does anyone beat the 87 years of Sweden’s Anders Olson (1901-2004) who had originals published in Aftontidningen in 1916 and Springaren in 2003?

We had a composer in the SCHWALBE (Ernst Schaaf) who was active
beyond 100 but I don't know when he started. See e.g.
Guess what, since I started with about 15, ask the
question again in 50 years :-)

In Winchloe, his first recorded composition is from 1911 and his last is from 1976.

In a short article to Schaaf's 100'th birthday in Die Schwalbe February 1980 it is mentioned that he "started composing problems in 1911." And in "Die Deutsche Schachzeitung," January 1982, page 39, is mentioned that he composed until "shortly before his 100'th birthday.' He passed away on May 13, 1985 in the age of 105!

Of course I wrote about F. Dedrle recently. His first study was in 1916, his latest (in hhdbv) in 2008 (composed in 1946). Now of course, maybe posthumous previously unpublished studies shouldn't count. In that case, 1951 as the final year is not as impressive.

Yes, we're talking about compositions published in the composer's lifetime. Edgar Holladay inherited Otto Wurzburg's records and was releasing his unpublished problems over a century after Wurzburg's first publication.

In his collection 'Wurzburg Artistry', Holladay writes that there were over 1000 published problems, but yet he only gives us a miserly 200.
Surely there's a lot more gems among the rest that deserve to be remembered.
