57th WCCC, Bern 2014

No clue why it is "Berne" in English.

Anyway, WCCC will be held next week, from 24th to 29th the official agenda is held, and two more days are planned for arrival and departure.
So I hope someone can find time to post "live" updates (read: once a day or so) into this thread. :-)

Dear Siegfried and chess friends, I will publish an article with information and photos from Bern daily on my website KoBulChess.com starting from 24th.

I was at http://kobulchess.com/ but no update yet. Diyan, what was done today, anything relevant already?

EDIT: First update was on 25th, not on 24th.
Great to see Morocco included in the WFCC, I worked together with two Moroccans earlier (Youness Ben Jelloun, Abdelaziz Onkoud).

Yes, I publish the first report on 25th instead of 24th because was extremely busy and tired (composing for some tourneys, receiving problems and reply for the Bulgarian Wine, goes to meetings as the bulgarian delegate here etc.)

You can see also the second report in the website:

Diyan-
Thanks so much for your pictures and daily updates. It's as if I'm there!! A GREAT service you are performing for the problem community! But then the sadness kicks in in that I can't be with you and others in person! :-(
best,
Eugene

I would love to see something like a livestream (maybe over Skype even if it shouldn't be public) for future WCCCs, or such events in general.
Was thinking about going to Bern for maybe only one day, but I think then the travel time and hotel cost still is too much.

I can offer you "chatting", to speak so, per e-mail or Skype, if you just want to talk to another problemist (or rather etyudist in my case). Just contact me per e-mail.

Livestream - why not!?
Today (37.08) is the Solving show. I can try to livestream it by twitter, so follow me there: @DiyanKostadinov
Start at 20:30 local time.

If it is successfull, I can livestream also the prize giving tomorrow.

Hundreds of problemists all over the world, like me, eagerly await the news about 38.WCSC. I believe somebody could help us in this modern time with Internet, social networks etc. Why don`t we have rankings at the same time (instantly) as participants themselves.

I mean in general. When we will have final results after second day on Internet. Not in the evening, hopefully. Much earlier, please.

Branislav, you are right. We can try it next time. I miss the WCSC, but tonight will try live stream of the Solving Show on twitter.

Number 8 was a very poor choice. It is immediately recognizable as the study of Peter Schmidt, Schach 2002-2003, 1st prize to German solvers, and it also has been reprinted at least two times in EG (once at the award and once in a column of Yochanan Afek - or was the latter reprint not in EG, but also in Schach?).

EDIT: Number 9 is also semi-regocnizable, as it was reprinted in "Auf Spurensuche mit Schachfiguren", the book of the author. But even then, the solution shouldn't be prominent in the minds of people even if the diagram is present. So that can't be criticized.

Nevertheless Germany isn't on 1st place.
No. 16 is also a very wellknown s#2. But as solver you have to look carefully, whether the remembered solution still works. And - I remember the h#2 at my first German Solvingship (P0538075), I immediately knew author and publication, but couldn't find the solutions ...

WCSC preliminary results are now available. I think there are totalling mistakes. Poland seems to have won confortably thanks to their two top solvers Piorun, Kacper & Murdzia, Piotr. Azerbeijan is surprise second place. Congrats to all!

I am also happy that the livestream of the Solving Show was successful and hope that the followers on twitter felt the atmosphere during these two hours with live updates every 5 minutes.

We can do it again. For example for the prizegiving ceremony tomorrow.

Answer to the post by Branislav Djurašević

Strange: We published the preliminary results of all the major competitions on our Website
http://www.kunstschach.ch/wccc2014/home.html
as soon as they were available at the congress. How come you were not able to follow them?

Franziska

@Franziska

I am very satisfied with your effort to inform us about all events, culminating with the very comprehensive Booklet! Thank you. The point of all my posts about 57th WCCC, Bern 2014 is about the time distance between when some events are over and when they will be widespread known. I think that Diyan Kostadinov fully recognized our needs with his tweets.

Many thanks for the organizers of the WCCC & WCSC! The event went smoothly in a friendly atmosphere and it was nice to meet "old" friends and to make new ones.
The WCCC website was perhaps the best ever, at least a very good one, offering valuable information before the congress and up-to-date information during the event. It does take time to check, for example, all solution sheets of the WCSC, mostly hastily written using different languages and piece symbols, and to produce the results tables. The bulletin was quickly made available for all - congratulations!
