### An Anti-Belen Theme?

Every theme, as far I know, has it’s anti form. As far as I know, that means either that the theme affects are oppositely shown in some way, or a position is reached where it would normally be done, but it isn’t. I don’t entirely know.

What do think that an Anti-Belen theme would be like? In my thinking, the Black king still goes from from c1 to d3. Then comes the anti-part-The BK is mated by Rd1# instead of 0-0-0#, because the WK needs to cover a flight sqaure on e1 instead of c1. I think that this shows an opposite effect.

What do you think?

To show my idea, here is a #3 with just 8 pieces of what I currently (I am open to debate) think an Anti-Belen exhibits, as stated above.

I'd find it convincing if you have 2 variants, one with
OOO#, one with Rd1#. Otherwise it's a bit academical.

Also, consider running from d3 to c1 between R and K :-)

Done and done Hauke!

Here’s the two varaint problem you suggested with Rd1# and 0-0-0#. I personally call it “The Double-Edged Sword.” It wasn’t actually all that difficult. My #3 from above just needed some modifications,

WTM, #3-Belen And Anti-Belen Themes

(= 9+4 )

Solutions: Belen: 1. Nc3+ Kc2 2. axb4 Kd3 3. 0-0-0# OR Anti-Belen: 1. axb4 Kc2 2. Na3+ Kd3 3. Rd1#

And the BK going going from d3 to c1:

WTM, #3

(= 9+4 )

I will not be suprised if either task is dualed or if better economy can be achieved.

EDIT: Here’s a much more silent and bloodless version of the BK d3-c1 journey with the same piece count.

Hauke and J., would this be Belen+Anti-Belen (regardless of retro/forward solving)?

Nikola, I’m not really to knowledgble about SPGs, so perhaps explain what makes you think of SPG as Belen+Anti-Belen?

 (Read Only) pid=17915

Very easy to solve.

1.e4 d5 2.Se2 Kd7 3.Sg3 Kc6 4.Bb5+ K:b5 5.c4+ K:c4 6.Qa4+ Kd3 7.Qb5+ Kc2 8.d3 K:c1 9.Sd2+ Kc2 10.Sc4 K:d3 11.0-0-0 mate

This seems to be Belen and Anti-Belen, yes!

Thanks Siegfried! I see now! It truly is a Belen and an Anti-Belen! It is Belen in that be the BK goes from c1 to d3 and is mated by 0-0-0#, and it is Anti-Belen in that the BK goes for d3 to c1, between the WK and WR.

Very nice Nikola! I especially like the long switchback of the BK!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. It's rather simple but illustrates the idea.

Hello Malcom , are you aware about U.S.Chess Problem Society and it's Magazine ...?!

 (Read Only) pid=17919

@Rajendiran No am I not familiar with that.

@Nikola
I took the liberty to post your SPG as a small puzzle to a mainstream audience.

It's OK, Siegfried.

The original Anti-Belen was presented in "harmonie" 2006, in the form of a *h#2, where the set-play was 1.0-0-0#, and the solution was the d3-c2-c1 manoeuvre by the bK, with the c1 square made accessible during the play, by 'b1' being occupied by the same wN that delivers the checkmate.

***** Nikola, bravo for the neat SPG!!

I presume you mean this problem from this earlier forum on chessproblemnet about the Belen theme?: https://www.chessproblem.net/viewtopic.php?t=60

It’s great!

Are you the author of it, or is someone else? And. what is the “harmonie?”

It’s great!

Rewan: Yes, is mine. It arrived already to WinChloe (a fine database).

* With "Thanks to FR" i was aknowledging the mag's then Editor for accepting a little bagatelle that surely would be too light a snack for their hungry solvers...

Nice that You liked it... (those involved with the Belen "catch the joke"...)

*** Note that the Editor of a Section or Magazine will not, as a rule, fix or adjust Your diagrams (as we saw in the other thread). They can point out for cooks, duals, and other possible mistakes, and return Your mail, and You (the Author) will seek for the required repairs.

**** to ***: After I sent in the 5th cooked version of a moremover
coproduction, the co long having given up, my excuse being that I'm a
2# expert and having no n# solving programs, the SCHWALBE "Sachbearbeiter"
got desparate and fixed it himself, even refusing coauthorship.

This is the exception! For rule, see *** again! :-)
