Thread devoted to "A Study apiece"...

...which every study fan should own (DISCLAIMER:
Except for getting a free exemplar, no vested
interests are involved :-).
I will post from time to time things that might
be of general interest, initiated by reading this
book, since (or is that although) I'm not an expert
in this area. Feel free to do the same.

ITEM 1. A study by Kasparjan
Gerhard kindly forwarded me an email by
Timothy Whitworth, who (in response to my own
chapter for the book) dug up the following (I quote
mostly from the email):
G. M. Kasparyan, 2nd Honourable Mention, Shakhmatna misl, 1957-1958
Kb3 Ba3 Sb8 Sf2/Kg7 Qh7, Draw
1 Nd7 Qg8+ 2 Kb4 Qa2 3 Ng4 Qd2+ 4 Kb3 Qd5+ 5 Kc2 Qe4+ 6 Kb3 Qe6+ 7 Kc2 Qf5+ 8 Kb3 =
(after Qxany S Bb2+ the king can't escape the forks).
Evil Evil ETGB finds a dual 4.Kc4. Tim suggests to skip all the foreplay
(before Kb3) and begin with 1.Nf8-d7. "On f8 the knight was protected by
the bishop; now it is en prise to the queen. Does that make the move
surprising enough?", as Tim said. Just for fun, I "mined" some more
(after all, it's just a repair try): place the bK on f6 or h6 and a wS
on h2 or h6 and begin with Ng4+. This adds another fork after 1...Kg5
2.Nh7+.
So, what's your opinion about a) ruining old studies with EGTB,
b) repairing old studies with EGTB, c) this actual case?

Can anyone make some statistics related to endgames featuring in FIDE Albums which turned out to be incorrect after EGTB check?
IGM Emilian Dobrescu wrote an article "Demolition as a creative impulse". I think the cooked endgames of old grand masters can come to a new life after ensuring the soundness using EGTB.

Demolition, sounds like me :-) Any further info?

Hauke

P.S. - Clarification: The starting position I checked is
Kc2 Ba3 Sf8 Sh6 - Kf6 Qd5 or the like. (Not Kb3/Qd2, as you
might follow from my babbling!)
