what types of tries make you flinch?

In a directmate twomover, which of the following try attributes make you cry foul? In other words, which would make you discount them as a serious try?

1.try takes a flight without a flight exchange
2.try takes a piece(not a pawn)
3.try piece captured is the refutation

in what order are the three of these most aggregious?

For me, 3 and 2 are almost unacceptable

I am certainly no directmate guru, but I think I would consider 3 the most severe fault, and 1 the least severe. I don't think I would categorically rule out any of them, but there would have to be a very good counter-argument to accept them as tries.

Well, if a *categoric* answer is required, I am grossly unfair:
"The tries of modern problems in general" :P Unbelievable tries
which are needed to spot the theme are the biggest obstacle
of todays "letter" problems.

I would even take a partly opposite stance - it's a try if
you seriously try it, duh, and why not take a flight (or,
better, provide a mate)? I know more than one good problem
with unprovided flight(s).
Threat piece captures ARE annoying (but take in account the
the key could have opened a line, then I stare onto that line,
not onto the "desperado").
Pawn captures are mostly harmless, to quote Doug Adams.
Pieces...uhm, well, I remember a solving tournament... :-)

The exactly opposite can happen too, BTW - too much tries
but half of them are unthematic. See the newest SCHWALBE
for an example. (sQa7 sRa6 etc.) If it obscures the theme,
it's no good either.

Good point about the capture of the threat piece, Hauke - I was automatically thinking of 3 as a situation where the try piece is threatening to mate, which would usually fit into your "unbelievable try" comment.
