Bosko,

Although it's good that all pieces are having some role in both phases (white & black) I think that idea is much more important and I do not see this as a big issue. It's very often in duplex problems that some pieces do not have a role in both phases.

(= 4+10 )
h#2 b)a1=a8

Sol.: a) and/or b) 1.b5 Qe3 2.Kc4 Bb3

With same departure and arrival square in 1.b7-b5, this is a sui-generis example of Ditto with an Ideal (!?) feature... Some sense is humour is required too for recognizing the intended Chameleon-Echo feature, as this means actually turning a REAL chessboard 90 degrees...

The theme even was done backwards with a trick.

h#2
a) diagram
b) all knights change color

I don't know how to hide a solution so I sadly have to write it openly.

a) 1.Sc3 Sd3 2.Sed5 f6#
b) 1.f6 Sd5 2.Sd3 Sbc3#

A backwards "ditto"

'Ditto' appears to be a very interesting theme for Helpmates and there seems to be very few examples. Why not somebody announce a theme tourney?

Actually there was a theme tourney for "ditto" helpmates announced last year and judged this year. It was Marek Kolcak 50 JT and the award is available in the Marianka 2010 bulletin that can be downloaded from page*
http://www.soks.host.sk/
at pages 111-117 (orthodox section), 118-121 (fairy section). Marek has chosen the theme of the tourney based on his successes in the past (2nd Prize in Whisky Turku, h#3 in Phenix).

* - edit: Thanks to Jacques Rotenberg for spotting the bad link. It is strange that it is not possible to link directly to the file, but going via the main page works.

Your link appeared to me as forbidden !
I could get the pages through this one :

Wonderful report !

Here another kind of "ditto" theme :

Jacques Rotenberg & Jean-Marc Loustau
Phenix 1993
(= 5+10 )
h#2
b)a4->d6

a) 1.Q×a7 S×c7 2.R×c7 Q×b5‡
b) 1.Q×a6 S×b5 2.R×b5 Q×c7‡

so what ?

both solutions are :

1.Q×S S×S 2.R×S Q×S‡

Ditto !
