Study of the Year 2007

We all are invited to propose worthy candidates for Study of the Year 2007. They should be sent to Y.Afek's email.
I am also asking everyone to name his study-candidate here on this page.
Remark that the Corus tourney award appeared in January 2008.
Another recent big tourney - the Dvoretsky JT was published in 2007.

Thanks Sergey for your help. Dvoretsky-60 JT is indeed a great source of worthy candidates for SOY. It's just a pity that it is little known among non Russian speakers. The analysis and comments look most profound and instructive. Could you possibly take the trouble to translate it to English?

Here's the award for russian readers. :-)

Strangely enough the quality of compositions was so extremely high that I only won 7th commendation (!).

(Ok, this was partially due to my misunderstanding. I thought, he wants gamelike studies. Still, some I sent in I regarded better than the one that actually won the 7.c)

Of course, Frank! I was very surprised at this move, thinking the position was wrong. The final positional draw - an absolute surprise. I believe, most OTB grandmasters would've given up at the 6th move (see diagram) or earlier. To me, this is much better than the first prize.

(= 4+3 )

I think J.Roycroft has already done the translation. Once he mentionned to me he was enjoying translating the Dvoretsky JT. Is it for EG only? Share, John!

The study by Bazlov is very nice. Striking classic!
Here's something from the pop for people who play chess as well as Mr.Bender.
Attack the black king! Sacrifice your queen, surprise your virtual opponent on every move and mate him!
