I have a question concerning Internet Tourney, group A (twomovers).I suppose that, when the white piece controlling at least two squares "leaves the scene", this doesn't necessarily mean that the key gives flight(s), does? I mean, White can have a double or triple control of these squares, so that the key may not give any flight, right? In the given example, by Mansfield, the key gives two flights to the black king, but I suppose this is not obligatory. Is that so? Thanks for any clarification.

I bought a return ticket at 13:25 because I knew that on Sunday only one round. Now I do not have time for the flight.

Some participants asked for more balanced program, with 2 + 2 rounds, but there is always possibility of sticking to initially planned schedule, too. Be sure we shall solve this problem.

Marcos,
the title is about "spectacular key", and explanation says: "Composers (and judge) are free to value the spectacular character of the withdrawal."
In most cases, giving two flights to BK appears more spectacular than giving away additional controls of otherwise guarded squares. Doesn't it? So, Example A1 presents intended interpretation.
The given definition formally doesn't exclude the later interpretation, and I will not eliminate such problems as not being thematic.
However, they will have to compete with other key-moves in this tourney, and to prove their right to be called "spectacular".

Thank you, Marjan. Yes, of course I agree with you in that a flight-giving key has much more "chances" to be a spetacular key than another one that gives no flight. The problem by Mansfield is a wonderful example of a spetacular key. Precisely because of this I asked my question: should be this a formal requirement? And I think you are right to be flexible in the formal requirement, leaving the matter of "spetacularity" for the judgement of judge and composers, as you had already suggested answering the question posed by Dragan Stojnici. And, you see, the title is about "spetacular key + thematic try-play". The balance and harmony of these elements will count in the judgement, I suppose. Mansfield's problem has a very strong key, but no try-play, as you indicated. On the other hand, the phrase "withdraws completely from the scene" also admits some interpretation left for the judgement, as you said in your answer to Dragan. In art, it's always better to be flexible and open-minded as much as you can, I think. In the end of the day, beauty is the only thing that really matters.
In short, thank you.
