Not that you need my approval, but those strike me as excellent choices. :)

@Juraj - *definitely* a case of preference. A dangerous one, too,
given that all classical themes must been taken by now:
I managed to "copy" an Ellerman problem with around 20 pieces
exactly. Which is an achievement, too (always assuming that it
wasn't my subconscious that did the copying). Oh the shame.

(Still, I owed Milan to participate in the memorial tourney,
"letter" theme or not.)

a small update...I looked at Colin Russ' book on miniatures and have settled on 7 nice examples.
1.bonus socius(2 versions)
2.Hassberg's Indian
3.Hermanson-Stocchi 3 self blocks by a bR with cross-check
4.Hermanson opposition problem with 2 changes from set
5.ten Cates 3 promotions to Q variations
6.Bettman-Marble Pickaninny
7.Wrobel's double black correction(I'll also mention his famous nephew!)

wht's nice about these miniatures is that they are quick to set up. I'll fill the rest with other non-miniature examples mentioned previously...

Hi Eugene. I should mention that the story of Pope John Paul II being Wrobel's nephew was a hoax!

Yes, the old Pope hoax. Larry Evans unfortunately perpetuated the myth.

What do you mean by the Bonus Socius (two variations)? Which problem is that?

W:Kh7 Ra7,g7
B:Kd8 Sd6

so this is already a complete block with only one W move to preserve the position. the original has a wR making a move from h7 to g7 to complete the block.

a nice problem perhaps good for beginners too :

Comins Mansfield
The Argonaut 1953
(= 7+7 )
2#

1.Qb7? [2.Qe4‡]
but 1…Sc3!

1.Q×e7? [2.Qe4‡]
1…Sc3 2.Kf6‡
but 1…Be5!

1.Qa8! [2.Qe4‡]
1…Sc3 2.Rh8‡
1…Qh1 2.Rf3‡
1…Qg1 2.Rg3‡
1…Qe1 2.Re3‡
1…Q×b8 2.Rd8‡
1…Qb7 2.Rd5‡
1…Qb6 2.Rd6‡
1…Qb4 2.Rd4‡
1…Qb3+ 2.Rd×b3‡

a magic duel between the black queen and the white rook.
Mansfield published some versions over years before he could get this one.
All the moves of the black queen are accurate : or they don't parry the threat and provoke no new mate or they parry the threat and provoke a precise mate by the white rook.
The changed mate after 1...Sc3 is a nice bonus.

All went well yesterday! We had about 20 for the 75 minute lecture. No one was surprisingly lost. We went through 8 problems, 7 of them miniatures from Colin Russ's book. The last was Comins mansfield's 1936 Olympic Ty 1st Pr. illustrating Black interference. We even got a number who showed further interest!

thanks everyone! I've got a pretty good working list. starting from simple going to complex:
1.Hassberg's miniature Indian NY Post
2.Marble's beautiful self blocks on 1 square(Thank you Steven for suggesting both)
3.Walter jacob's famous halfpin (rooks) with flight giving square
4.still looking for a traditional black interference(any suggestions)
5.Milan Vuckevich's famous wB tries(self obstructions) BCM
6.the famous 9 piece Zagoruyko changed B promotions
7.the recent Russian complete change mutate(I have to dig this up but I think I know where it is!)
8.John Rice's complete permutation-combination-refuatation with all bP moves
9.and I'll throw my 1984 ALBUM crosschecker for good measure to let them know I compose as well!

your thoughts on #4?

above Paragraph is from Post No.11 of this Thread

Dear Mr.Eugene Can You Show the (7.the recent Russian complete change mutate)?!

Beautiful changes, but Sa6 not needed after key !

add a black pawn a7 ! - perhaps, is it better to have a useless black pawn than a useless white knight ??

Adding more useless material to make a problem more
economic? (I don't hear this suggestion for the first
time. I still find it unacceptable, to put it mildly.)

Unfortunately simply changing to the after-key
position is of no use at all either - the cook Nb4+
is only avoidable by ruining the mutate.

Adding bPa7 should be tried to make use of wSa6. Then wPa6(-wSa6) should be tried to improve that. Next try would be to remove bPa7&wPa6 and final try might be to add wSa6 for the set-play. My reasoning can hardly be more economical :-)
