Last Sunday, we had solving competition in Belgrade. One of the problems was this threemover. Although it's not so hard to solve this problem the solution is very nice and I am sure everyone will like this problem:

Very nice problem indeed. Strangely, the one variation for which I had to think longer was 1.--- Sf6. The key is meant as a surprise because the check 1.--- Re6+ becomes possible. It is interesting to note what happens now in a solver's head: One sees immediately that 2.Se5+ (the only reasonable answer) is successful. And exactly this observation leads to the instant conviction that 1.Ke3 must be the key - even before any of the other variations have been examined. In this sense, the very detail which has been constructed to make the key unlikely gives away the solution!

As a matter of fact the competition was on Saturday... How the time flies :)

Not necessarily! For instance, 1... Re6+ was the last defence I found.
"Bohemians" would be disappointed with only two model mates. I was sorry not to find something like 1... (selfblock on e7) 2.Qb8+. However, the majority of solvers thought that this was the most enjoyable problem of all we solved two days ago.
By the way, Misha won the competition, while I was the best in - unofficial and probably recognized only by me :) - "over 50" category. Marjan Kova?ević will try to join me there next year, but I don't worry, I will instantly promote myself to "over 55 elite" :)

Frank, no composing tourney has been announced recently
on occassion of solving competition from here.
There were two tourneys back in April 2006 and the results can be found at

May be I mad a mistake. I meaned the following (cited from Jan Golha):

That's "almost" here :)
With so many new countries in recent years it is hard to figure out the right one, sometimes I am not sure what is the name of my own country, it is notoriously changing!
As far as I know the results of Croatian Quick Composing Championship have not been published yet. Perhaps the best place for you to look for the answer is Problem Online site.
