B: bPd5 -> c6 | | (2) Posted by Georgy Evseev [Tuesday, Aug 17, 2021 08:00] | May I ask for clarification what is meant under the "photographic (perfect) echo"?
1. Should _all_ the pieces on the board be echo-translated, or only those that participate in mate (guarding, blocking, pinning, etc.)? For example, if a bPh7 is added example (I did not check if cooks may appear), will the problem remain thematic?
2. If the requirement is not strict, is it allowed to use different units (of the same kind) in different mates?
That is, is below problem thematic (there are different unused pieces in mates and different knights are used in finals, while echo itself is "perfect")?

b) -Sc4 | | (3) Posted by Bjørn Enemark [Wednesday, Aug 18, 2021 19:12] | 1) I think it is a plus if all pieces are echo-translated. In the problem by Cioflâncă this is not the case for bSd1, bPa4 and bPb3 and they show up on the photo.
2) A photo does not see the difference between pieces of the same kind so it is ok to construct an echo that way (the two knights in the problem)
So yes, the problem is thematic, but it would score higher if all pieces were part of the echo | | No more posts |
