And, congratulations to John for winning the fourth major solving competition in a row: ECSC, WCSC, ISC, Wijk... Fantastic!
The three of you, including Jan Timman who composed not less than seven endgames for the competition, could be really proud for what you did to promote the Endgame Art in the OTB Chess circles and media! | | (3) Posted by Yochanan Afek [Saturday, Feb 12, 2011 01:42]; edited by Yochanan Afek [11-02-12] | Many thanks, Marjan! Chess composition has happily become a traditional part of the rich program of Tata Steel tournament. Besides the successful solving day hundreds of chess fans, both in the village and online, sent in their solution to the daily two-move challenge and it was the second year that the tournament (like several other major Dutch events)had an official original endgame study. Last year it was Ivanchuck who was seen solving a twomover on the podium during at least one of his games and this year Ponomariov asked me for a copy after each round. GM Marin, the second of Vocaturo (winner of GM group C)was regularly competing WGM Alina L'ami (the big surprise of the solving day) in the press room who will solve the daily challenger first and almost all arbiters have been regular solvers in Wijk for years. Three studies were also published in the promoting special magazine. This example and many others show time and again that there is a huge potential market of over the board players outthere to enjoy our art (at least its more orthodox genres). If we could just try from time to time not to act like a closed underground sect ! | | No more posts |
