MT L.Loshinskiy and E.Umnov - 100
The genius problemist Lev Ilyich Loshinskiy and the outstanding theorist and historian of chess composition Evgeniy Ivanovich Umnov were born in the very beginning of the 1913.
To commemorate this event the Russian Chess Federation and its comission for chess composition have announced the centenary composing tourney "L.Loshinskiy and E.Umnov - 100".
The contest will be held in six traditional sections:
twomovers: judge V.Kopyl (Ukraine)
threemovers: judge V.Shavyrin (Russia, Ekaterinburg)
moremovers: judge Y.Vladimirov (Russia, Moscow)
endgame studies: judge O.Pervakov (Russia, Moscow)
helpmates: judge B.Shorokhov (Russia, Ramenskoye)
selfmates: judge: A.Azhusin (Russia, Tver)
The established prize fund is 120000 RUR (~ 4000 USD).
Closing date for the tourney is the 1st of September 2012.

Wonderful idea : these two great problemists deserve honours of course.
"ingenious" for Loschinski sounds a bit low, "genius" would certainly be more appropriate to him.

As far as i know, all questions of this kind (how they are divided between sections, within sections etc) are yet to be decided.

Haven't had much time to look over the Helpmate awards, but really enjoyed the top h#2 entries!
In the h#n section, the 5th Honorable Mention (sorry, I cannot read the author name) should be compared to P0501215 on PDB (S. Rumjanzew, 3rd Prize, Mat 1989), which achieves the same echo mates with 3 fewer units and in set/play form. The latter does have the drawback, though, of having Sf5-g7 played in both lines.

I can make out "bravo Marjan" to the first prize winning #2, but that's about it. this looks like reciprocal 1st move/threat plus reciprocal change-nice! Has Peter Gvozdjak been working on compiling these for his latest work on non-cyclones?

One of the tourney participants has found a cook in it and the judge has excluded it from the award.
This is a quote from the russian foreword:
"Long selfmate entries were not all computer tested and the judge hopes for help from the fellow composers."

that is right, eugene. three parts of the series already appeared this year. the mentioned marjan's twomover is included in the part four that appears in the december issue, among 24 examples of the theme (of them 20 twomovers, 4 others). f.y.i. for the next year the parts five to seven are planned.
btw, i also gave a lecture about those seven themes at the kobe meeting (with just three examples, not to speak too long).

I saw your excerpt video on youtube Peter! Now I can match a name, a face and a voice!
MK's 1st prize winner appears of the form (AB)CD-(BA)DC, but I believe this was not one of the several examples you gave. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd love to see other examples of this form...
