https://chess.stackexchange.com/questions/39828/most-different-mate-in-n-depending-on-blacks-move/39831#39831
The "loose" formulation would be: "Give a BTM position where, depending on Black's move, White mates in 1,2,...N moves."
My preference, as stated in the thread, would the strictest formulation possible:
X%: 1.A#!
Y%: 1.B! Y2! 2.B2#!
Z%: 1.C! Z2! 2.C2! Z3! 3.C3#!
and so on, where "%" means "all of the (N Black) moves, but choice possible" and "!" only (legal) Black move/only White move that mates in the required number of moves. Moreover, White shouldn't be able to mate in K>M at all when he is supposed to mate in M<N!
Somewhat looser would be dropping the "only Black legal move" requirement.
EDIT: A superexact N=2 example.
(= 3+2 )
0...Ka8 1.Rxa6# (no #2 exist)
0...a5 1.a4 Ka8 (only move!) 2.Ra6#
SON OF EDIT: A superexact N=3 example.
(= 11+7 )
0...d6 1.Sxc7#
0...dxc6 1.Sc8 2.Se7#
0...dxe6 1.Bg4 2.Bf5 3.fxe4#
with all moves of Black forced and no shorter mate. | | No more posts |
