How is Igor Yarmonov?

Dear all,

please do NOT discuss (chess) politics/war etc. in this thread, there are other threads for that.

since four weeks Igor Yarmonov from Mariupol (Ukraine) seems missing. Does anyone have information on if Mr. Yarmonov is well, or still alive?
On my monthly article, someone reached out to the Ukrainian Chess Federation, etc., but they received no useful information.

So you will understand that I am concerned - as are others - about Mr. Yarmonov. So we would like to know if anyone has any information.
Due to the war, do NOT share in public any place where he is currently, etc. Also, again, please stay on topic. This is not for discussion about politics/war, etc., only about the missing Igor Yarmonov.
I would like to kindly ask Borislav (Administrator) to keep an eye on this, so the topic stays on topic.

Many thanks,
Siegfried

Evgeny, why are you abusing this thread?
Borislav can't spend all the day deleting inappropriate comments.

I managed to contact Igor Yarmonov, and he let me provide short information here. He and his wife spent more than a month in Mariupol, without communication, electricity, gas, heating, and water. With the help of his wife's relatives, he was transported to Moscow. He is not going to stay in Russia (he did not apply for refugee status) and looking for convenient opportunities (routes) to leave Russia.

@Viktoras: Thanks, hopefully Siegfried will see your message soon and feel a little reassured.

@Valery: I'm not sure why you've decided to disrepect Siegfried, Marjan and Borislav by bringing abusive comments to this thread. I assume your message will be deleted once a moderator reads it. I guess they will then decide if it's your last post for a while.

@Valery:
Please read the first post again. Siegfried explicitly requested that this thread is ONLY about information of Igor Yarmonov. Your post is not related to that question, so it's not appropriate for this thread.

I have already written that Igor Yarmonov and his wife are now in Moscow with his wife's sister. Now they are treating a cold. Valery wrote in this topic only that some Lithuanians talk a lot about helping Yarmonov, but they did nothing. And I know that Valery helped Yarmonov financially.

@Andrey:
We will be able to help Igor when it is possible, but he wrote that he is not currently able to accept financial assistance in euros or dollars. I think it is incorrect to blame Western colleagues for not helping, forgetting which country is guilty for Igor being in such a situation.

At the request of Igor Yarmonov, I am publishing his appeal:

************************************************************
Dear chess composers!
I, Igor Yarmonov, a FIDE master in chess composition, together with my wife spent more than a month in Mariupol in dire conditions without communication, electricity, gas, heating, water, food and medical care. At the moment we have temporarily evacuated to Israel. We don‘t know yet where we will find asylum later. We are currently without means for life and medical treatment. I am physically disabled (diagnosis - cerebral palsy).
We ask everyone who cares: please provide financial or other support that you can. You can contact me by e-mail: yarmonovip@gmail.com.

Vladislav Tarasiuk is extremely incorrect and aggressive.

In private correspondence, I told him that the story that was published on Facebook was not for the Matplus site.
He used that for a group email with the obvious intention of discrediting me.

I repeat what I wrote:

Igor Yarmonov and his wife are going through a very difficult period in their lives. I want them to return to normal life as soon as possible.
All this is very tiring and scary, but I repeat, such stories are not for the Matplus site. You can email Facebook link of their interview to any chess composer.

Despite everything, I remain consistently of the opinion that such stories, but also others that are basically propaganda or incite hatred and intolerance, cannot be on the Matplus site.

Borislav

Dear friends,
I have checked Maya Gelfand's appeal for Igor Yarmonov on Face Book. It describes his condition in Mariupol and also seeks his rehabilitation in Israel.I did not find discussion of politics and war. However, now that he and his wife are in Russia Ms Gelfand should have been more circumspect in quoting the latter.
The plight of chess composers like Tarasiuk and Yarmonov in the present crisis deserve a place in the General Forum. It also places on record facts available for future historians writing on chess composers and their lives. So it is important and valuable.
Let us place humanity above politics. The least this site can do is to be unbiased, impartial and just towards composers who are victims of war.

This is an update for those of you who have been following Igor Yarmonov and his wife Galina.

Igor and Galina Yarmonov are now in Switzerland. They stayed near Zurich from end of October to mid-November and have now moved to a place near Berne.

Franziska and I visited them yesterday. Communication was not easy due to the lack of common language (apart from chess). But DeepL and Google Translator were useful.

As far as we can tell, they are doing well and in good spirits. They are getting used to winter in Switzerland and starting to establish connections with the local chess clubs.
