Got it. I wrongly assumed that the 65 registered were for the juniors composing tourney! :) |

Oh, Seetharaman, 65 juniors composing chess problems would be fantastic! You may remember, a year ago I asked MP members if they knew of any composer U20, or U23, a part from those we have in Serbia:
http://www.matplus.net/start.php?px=1455818185&app=forum&act=posts&tid=1634&fid=gen&page=1
The short discussion detected only 4 more, 2 from Azerbaijan and 2 from Netherlands. Later on, in personal contacts, I heard about some more, from Russia, Israel, and Ukraine.
Interestingly, all of them are U18 this year, perhaps a sign the interest of young age doesn't last long...
This is why we set limit on 18 years, wit the goal to inspire at least 15 participants from at least 6 countries. Adding to it someone from India, or any new country, would be great! |

(On the official website go to: Belgrade/Free Time Activities, or directly to: http://wccc2016.matplus.net/belg.php)
All registered participants will be offered to vote for up to three organized tours out of the eight suggested ones. |

Don't mix Free Time Activities (around Belgrade) with main Excursion (Thursday, Novi Sad etc)!
About registration process: if your name is on the list, it means your reservations have been confirmed. |

Another promotion of problem chess on Serbian national TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWsHQxrIAF8
The problem chess evening devoted to Belgrade WCCC, to successes of our solvers in Athens ECSC, and to our juniors who will take part in Belgrade WCCC.
If you wonder what is on the chess cake, it is a #3... |

Marjan, I have two questions about the schedule: What is the ladies meeting on Sunday? What are the OTB (over the board) matches on Thursday? |
|
(31) Posted by Marjan Kovačević [Tuesday, Jun 14, 2016 01:14] |
Ladies meeting is a (too) short name for the meeting of the hosts and the accompanying persons, to discuss the planned "free time activities".
The name came from the traditional "Ladies program", and from the fact there are already 35 ladies among participants.
However, this part of the program is really meant for all. The meeting will be used to try to organize groups of participants sharing similar interests. Like, visiting some sights of the Jewish tradition in Belgrade, etc.
The exact format of the rapid OTB chess matches (Wednesday, 21h) will be published later. The idea is to bring some of the leading Serbian chess grandmasters to our meeting. |

Thank you, Marjan. The rapid OTB games are a good idea, as more and more of the top solvers are also strong players, rather than composers. |

Yes, Kostas, WCSC gathers like three decent Olympic teams, half of them being grandmasters, with average rating close to 2.600. And there are around 50 GM's in Serbia, some 15 of them living in Belgrade. This seemed like good circumstances for an encounter on the high level. |

Are you saying that I'm not in the team? :-)
No, seriously a promosing idea. It already sounds like a memorable congress. |

And where we can see the Rules of solving show? |
|
(37) Posted by Marjan Kovačević [Thursday, Jun 16, 2016 17:12] |
In the Solving section of the official website you may find rules about qualifying: 9 from WCSC, 6 from Open + 1 Junior (from the Youth Solving Show). There will be only direct #2 problems, according to the original program by Milan, where each wrong move has a written refutation. |

It's an intresting information but where we can find the RULES of Solving Show??? It's unclear what participants will be allowed to compete if some of these 16 places will be free? Some solvers will ignore this event, some will take high places in both - in WCSS and in Open, so the disputable situation inevitably will arise. The order of paring also will be important.
The decision to gave a place for child looks disputable, as children have more events on this congress than adults (The Machine gun is only for children). If the young solver is weak - he will become a sweet booty :) for his opponent, if he is rather strong he should try to conquer the place as all other solvers. |

The deadline of registration has expired long ago but the list of participants of congress is still growing up and down and then up again :) In all other sports the list of participants of championship is published in advance, but we (solvers of WCSC) still have only the unofficial list of countries without concrete names of solvers. |

The deadline??
see http://www.wfcc.ch/1999-2012/wcsc/
-------
- 5.3. Each country must notify the names of all solvers participating on its behalf in writing to the Director or the person nominated for this purpose by the Director or WFCC not less than 24 hours before the tournament starts. If required, the notification must include all documents according to the FIDE rules for establishing the eligibility of the participants.
- 5.5. Teams and/or solvers may be admitted at a later time at the discretion of the Director.
--------
"In all other sports...."
Professional sportsmen can plan their calendar and financial aspects much in advance because it's their job.
Of course, if you want to disable the amateurs to participate in WCSC, you'll try to change the rules of that tournament. |
