The Solving Tests will expire soon This is the last week of the series of Solving Tests prepared by Milan. We shall try to keep system working, but the result is not guaranteed. |

It will not be an easy task to assure a smooth work without the sources Milan used, but we hope the Tests will survive. |

Although not desirable, wouldn't it be a viable in-between solution to randomly choose previous tests that are at least 2 years old to be presented again? |

Today in the pb 4 it seems that a black queen is missing on a5 or b4 |

Jacques, what is pb4? Could you check it, all problems seems to be correct? |

test 2448 problem 4
after a quick search in Winchloe, there is a black queen in a5
this was easy to understand because without this black queen you have a dual and also some black pawns have no use |

O.K., the BQ on a5 avoids the dual after 1...d1=N. But my question is: is this 1...d1=N variation important if there was not a correlate variation with 1...b1=N? Against the latter White has 2.Nf4#, 2.Nc1# and 2.Qe1#. It seems it's impossible to avoid this "triple". So, maybe a more harmonious presentation for the problem is eliminating the BQ and the pawns on c5 and d4. |

It could be an exercise to propose versions for this problem.
The half-pin is obviously the main feature here.
However, 1...b1=S does not defeat the threat |
