Kings&Pawns AUW


Here is a brand new orthodox AUW in the Kings&Pawns category, published today. It seems the first two K&P AUW examples in endgames were published at about same time, at the end of 2009: Costeff (BQ, WS, WB, WR, in a single line) and Dydukh (white AUW in different lines).

Gady Costeff pointed out to me the following studies when I asked him about that last year:

Mixed AUW, although Sonntag omitted the 1...Kc1 line for some reason.

Here is another K&P AUW #4 from the same author. This time there are two pairs of promotions by the same WPs in two variations. There is also a fifth promotion (WQ), and the key is fine for this kind of task.

If you are not interested in solving the latest K&P AUW, here is the complete solution:

1.Kf8! Kf6 2.e8B Ke6 3.d8R Kf6 4.Rd6#
1... Kd6 2.d8Q+ Kc5 3.e8S K:c6 4.Qc7#

Without wanting to spam, I can recommend the book "Kings & Pawns". It contains a few AUWs with that material, although mostly in helpmates.

The following masterpiece is no.380 in the abovementioned book.

To show how difficult a Kings&Pawns AUW is, the following example is a good demonstration.
