http://www.milanvel.net/pub/EPCF_Bulletin.pdf (1.44 MB) | | | | Wednesday, May 6, 2009 00:03 | Mat Plus & Review – New IssuesMat Plus Review Spring–Summer 2009
A 96-page double issue starts with two reactions to articles from the Winter 2008 issue. Hans Peter Rehm’s Further Examples of Räumungsopfer is a continuation of Yuri Gordians’s discussion on a popular theme, while Sir Jeremy Morse clarifies some facts from Georgy Popov’s article Promotion Records. New contribution from tireless Dragan Stojnić is The Renaissance of The Đurašević Theme in Orthodox Twinless Problems. Mark Ridley prepared an extensive overview of Fairy Kings and we are proud to announce a tourney to celebrate Mark’s 50th birthay with a theme presented in the article. Borislav Gađanski’s Active Sacrifice of White Piece and Tempo Move in Orthodox Helpmate Threemover is connected with another theme tourney, 2nd Round of Liga problemista 2009. Then, there are awards in two informal tourneys 2007: Moremovers by Hans Peter Rehm and Fairies by Petko A. Petkov. And that’s not all! Those who are still interested in twomovers will welcome Ideal Ruchlis – A Comprehensive Overview prepared by Milan Velimirović with a precious assistance from Udo Degener. The closing column MatPlus.Net: Best Bytes this time presents few editor’s favorite discussions from our Web site Forum.
Mat Plus Spring–Summer 2009
Available at PDF Archive. | | | | | | Wednesday, Apr 15, 2009 13:47 | Theme TourneysNote that today (April 15th) is the closing date for both ECSC Internet composing tourneys. Don't forget to submit your problems today because late entries cannot be accepted due the limited time the judges have to finish their job. Judging by the number of entries received until now (67 twomovers, 86 helpmates... and growing...) both tourneys are the big success!
It's now time to turn your attention to another theme tourney: the 2nd round of Liga problemista 2009 also with interesting though a little bit more demanding helpmate theme. See the announcement: http://www.matplus.net/pub/start.php?&app=forum&act=posts&fid=lp09&tid=499 | | | | Saturday, Mar 14, 2009 14:48 | Notices...Magazine
Because of some "unbreakable" material the Spring and Summer issues will be joined in one volume which will be printed in second half of April 2009. The solutions from MP31 and MP32 will appear there. Thus, there is less than 4 weeks left for submission of comments.
Starting with the Autumn issue the solutions will be printed alongside the originals, meaning that diagrams will appear on this site a month or two beforehand.
ECSC Composing Tourneys
This is a reminder that tonight (Saturday to Sunday) at midnight the themes for composing tourneys on occassion of the ECSC 2009 will be announced on ECSC pages. For now just a warning that themes will be by no means trivial, so you'd better start composing already tomorrow :)
There are two sections: direct twomovers and helpmates in 3 moves. | | | | Wednesday, Feb 18, 2009 16:39 | European Problem Chess Festival 6th - 10th May 2009The official site of thes event has been created here, at MatPlus.Net, with all the relevant information: Invitation, Programme, News, List of participants... The announcements of two Internet composing tourneys will be published there soon. Click the "ECSC 2009" link near the top of the menu to open the EPCF pages. | | | | Monday, Feb 16, 2009 10:46 | Mat Plus Winter IssuesIn Winter issue of Mat Plus Review you can injoy in articles: The Application Of Bristol Theme in Modern Twomover by Dragan Stojnic, Help-Self Problems With Set-Play by Petko Petkov, Promotion Records by Grigory Popov, Development of Theme “Raumungsopfer” by Yury Gordian, White Play on The Same Square in W2 Move in The SelfmateiIn 3 by Živko Janevski and Polemic in The Studies World (1) by John Roycroft. Then, there are some 2007 awards (Twomovers, Endgames, Helpmate twomovers and Retro/Math) and last but not least the Best Bytes selection brings us 90 years back into history with an interesting A Veteran’s Day tribute to chess composers post by Vladimir Tyapkin. 64 pages.
Mat Plus No.32 brings the result of the 4th round, as well as the final table of Liga Problemista 2008, followed by a plenty of original problems and the solutions of originals from MP 30. PDF version at: http://www.milanvel.net/pub/MP32.pdf. There is also another issue of Serbian Bulletin: http://www.milanvel.net/pub/Bilten_38.pdf
In addition, indexes for two years have been completed. Subscribers will get printed versions, for other the PDF versions are available (http://www.milanvel.net/pub/ndx2007.pdf and http://www.milanvel.net/pub/ndx2008.pdf)
This is most likely the last time the magazine is printed in such an extravagant form. Faced to the extremely selective public (meaning: select what's free, ignore rest!) some radical changes will be necessary both in the appearance of the magazine, and in the accompanying web site.
_____
Better late than never! This headline should have been published 3 or 4 weeks ago - the readers have certainly received their printed magazines so far. Also, the link to the PDF version of MP32 have been present here for some time.
The indexes have not been mailed yet because there would have been be about 10 g "overweight" (which would cost the additional 1.50 EUR per envelope). They will be mailed together with the Spring 2009 issues. | | | | Wednesday, Oct 22, 2008 19:21 | Mat Plus Autumn IssuesFew weeks later than sheduled Autumn issues are finally printed.

"The history of chess composition has produced many great masters. Unfortunately, some of them have not been understood and recognised by the ordinary problem enthusiast. It takes something extra to be widely accepted and admired both by experts and colleagues, and by less knowledgeable chess problem solvers and fans. Touw Hian Bwee had that certain something, excelling as one of the most popular and charismatic composers of the second half of the 20th century. His clear and technically perfect compositions based on highly attractive chess motifs like pins, interferences or batteries are guaranteed to gladden the solver’s heart even if he fails to understand the theme completely." (from the Preface)
